Our achievements
Over the last 40 years, Hestia has grown into a dynamic organisation and is proud of its achievements to date. Some of the highlights are listed below. You can read more in both our Annual Review and History publications:
1970 Charity founded by Jim Horne, originally known as the St Mungo Community Trust
1974 Hestia became the first voluntary organisation to run a bail hostel
1984 Dame Gertrude Young House, a hostel for homeless men, was opened in Ealing
1987 Hestia became one of the first charities in the UK to house and support people affected by HIV/AIDS
1992 Opened the first specialist project in the UK caring for Asian people with mental health needs
1998 Changed our name to Hestia Housing and Support
2002 Merged with North Kensington Women's Aid and Kingston Women's Aid
2005 Merged with Strutton Housing Association to become the largest provider of HIV services in London
2007 Merged with 4 other Women's Aid Charities in Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Harrow
2008 Appointed host of 1st Local Involvement Network (LINk) in London (Kensington & Chelsea)
2009 Appointed host organisation for 3 additional LINks (Brent, Ealing and Hammersmith & Fulham)
2010 40th year anniversary celebrations
